Scottish fisheries museum

The Museum was founded in 1969 and is housed in a group of buildings of historical and architectural interest at St. Ayles in Anstruther overlooking the harbour.
The Museum, which is open for seven days a week throughout the year, has grown in size and in the range of its galleries and has received major awards. A considerable amount of restructuring has been carried out and a series of ramps allow wheelchair access to virtually every part of the buildings.

The Museum tells the story of the Scottish fishing industry from the earliest times to the present. With many model and actual boats, fishing gear, photographs, paintings and tableaux on display, as well as a new 'Zulu' gallery just open, a visit to the Museum makes for an exceptional day out.

The Museum houses an extensive reference library and photographic archive available by appointment to the public.

There is a pleasant Tearoom, serving home-made soup, fresh rolls and home baking, and a well-stocked Shop with a wide range of gifts and souvenirs.
